School Bus Surveillance Camera Captures Driver Walking Off the Job
— -- A school district in southeastern Texas has released surveillance video from an incident last week showing a school bus driver pulling over and walking off the job.
After a student threw something in the direction of the driver, the driver for the Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District asked a student to push a red emergency button, pulled over, and made a phone call, the video shows. On the phone, the driver is heard saying “you need to send somebody to get this bus and these kids. I’m done. I can’t take it no more.”
The fed-up driver waited outside the bus for about 19 minutes until a back-up driver and another district official arrived, according to the school district.
There were 53 students on the bus, according to the school district.
CBISD police chief told ABC News that the investigation is onging. A school district spokesperson said the District Attorney is looking into the case.
The driver was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 3 pending an investigation and the driver resigned the following day, according to the school district.
A spokesperson from the school district said the driver stayed with the bus until another driver came to take over. She did not abandon the bus or kids, but rather she took the keys with her, left the door open and waited with the bus, the spokesperson said.
