The Supreme Court said Friday that it would hear an expedited appeal of President Donald Trump's case seeking to end birthright citizenship by executive order.

The Supreme Court did not explain the decision. It will likely be scheduled for oral argument next spring and decided by the end of June.

This is the second time Trump's order will come before the court, but this time the justices are expected to review it on the merits.

Upon taking office for a second term, Trump signed an executive order seeking to discontinue that practice and limit citizenship only to children born to parents who are legal permanent residents or citizens.
