Google Glass Responds to Siri's Smack Talk

Aug. 26, 2013 — -- It's no secret that Google and Apple are fierce rivals, but now the companies' voice-controlled personal assistants are jumping into the ring. Or at least Siri is.

Now when you refer to Siri as Google Glass, by uttering the words "OK, Glass," she will respond with one of a few snarky phrases, including the following:

"I think that Glass is half empty."

"Stop trying to strap me to your forehead. It won't work."

"I'm not Glass. And I'm just fine with that."

"Glass? I think you've got the wrong assistant."

"Just so you know, I don't do anything when you blink at me."

For now only Apple's personal assistant is talking smack, when you ask Google's Google Now service about Siri it will simply just search the web. However, Google says that Google Glass has the following response to Siri's newly learned phrases.

"Siri, it's not you, it's me. You see, I just met Google Voice Search and fell hard for her. She doesn't just listen; she understands me," Google Glass said in a statement.

Apple did not respond to ABC News' request for comment on Siri's new snarky comments. Siri's responses were first spotted by Twitter user @seanmbrage and reported by technology website The Verge. Though, according to 9to5Mac Senior Editor Mark Gurman the responses were added a while back.

Apple's skepticism about Google Glass, the digital glasses that put a small screen and camera in front of one's right eye, hasn't been a secret. In June, during an interview at the All Things D conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook said "It's probably more likely to appeal to certain vertical markets. The likelihood that it has a broad range appeal is tough to see."

Still, the maker of the iPhone and iPad has may itself be entering the wearable gadget space, but with a smartwatch, not glasses. At that same event, Cook said wearable technology "is incredibly interesting."

Google has been testing its Glass with select users and plans to release it publicly in 2014.
