— -- An Indiana woman's car collided with a school bus after she saw a spider and jumped from the driver's seat, authorities said.

Angela Kipp, 35, was backing out of her driveway near Syracuse, Indiana, on Friday afternoon when she saw a spider on her shoulder, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

Kipp jumped from the car while it was still in reverse, the Sheriff's Department said.

Her 9-year-old son, who was in the back seat, then climbed to the driver's seat. He tried to activate the brake pedal, authorities said, but instead depressed the throttle.

The car then collided with a passing school bus, authorities said.

The 9-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition to be treated for minor head injuries, the Sheriff's Department said.

The driver of the school bus wasn't injured and no children were on board, authorities said.

First Sgt. Chad Hill of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department told ABC News this was a "completely unique" and "bizarre" situation.

"It's incredible that it wasn't more tragic," Hill added.

The crash is under investigation.
