Three 14-year-old students were injured in a stabbing at a Texas high school on Friday, authorities said.

A 14-year-old suspect is in custody in connection with the incident at Americas High School in El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, calling it an "isolated attack."

Authorities received a report of an individual with a knife by the high school's baseball field around 8:30 a.m., according to El Paso County Sheriff's Office Commander Jerome Washington.

Two of the victims were injured while trying to intervene and help the third, he said.

The victims -- two 14-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl -- were transported to local hospitals with stab wounds and are all in stable condition, authorities said. Two have since been released, Washington said.

"All other students and staff are safe under the supervision of faculty and staff," the Socorro Independent School District said in a statement.

District police took the suspect into custody near the school without incident, officials said. He faces at least three charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Washington.

The sheriff's office said it is investigating the incident with assistance from the Texas Rangers and Socorro Independent School District Police Department.

"Our investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident," Washington said at a press briefing on Friday.

The commander said he was unable to confirm if the suspect is a student at the high school.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement secured the area.

Counseling and support services will be made available, school officials said.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our students and employees," Socorro Independent School District Board President Michael Najera said at the press briefing. "We will continue working closely with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward, while our focus remains on supporting our students, staff, and families."

Texas State Sen. Cesar Blanco said his office is in "close contact" with local and state officials following the incident.

"I am deeply saddened by the senseless violence at Americas High School today," Blanco said in a statement. "I am praying for the students, families, faculty, and staff affected by this incident."
