— -- Alyah Mitchell said she was thrilled when her friend JR Hall invited her to her high school prom.

The only obstacle standing in their way was Hall's recovery from a devastating car accident that left him immobile on Feb. 2.

"For about the first month of the accident, he could not speak on his own, and he didn't remember much," said Mitchell, 18. "It was a pretty bad accident. He had to have surgeries on his neck. Pretty much all his normal body functions were out of whack."

A little while after being admitted into the hospital, Hall, 18, asked Mitchell if he could escort her to the prom on March 21.

"He asked me if I would go with him once he gets better because it would make his night really special," Mitchell told ABC News. "I was always hoping he would be able to go."

"I realized he wouldn’t be able to take me because I figured he wouldn’t heal in time," Mitchell said. "I was hoping by some miracle it would happen, but it didn’t."

When asked how he felt not being able to take Mitchell to the prom, Hall said he was pretty upset.

"I asked because I thought she was beautiful," he said. "We would've danced a lot and I could've made her night a lot more special."

On the big night, Mitchell decided put on her prom dress two hours before the dance.

"I thought it would be sweet to go down to the hospital and surprise him," she said.

Without a thought, Mitchell paid a visit to her good friend Hall.

Earlier today, the teen tweeted photos of the two of them, which was shared over 1,000 times.

"This is insane, I was not expecting to get this much talk behind a picture," said Mitchell. "I just wanted to post the picture of him and I."

Mitchell's hospital visit sent Hall over the moon.

"It made me feel really special and she looked really good," he said. "I love her smile, she's really sweet, and I really love her personality."

Hall, who attends a different high school than Mitchell, said he has plans to take her to his prom on May 9 to make up for time lost.
