Trump Campaign Paid $1.1 Million to Trump Businesses and Family Last Month
— -- In May more than $1.1 million — 1 in 6 dollars that Donald Trump spent — went to his own businesses, his family or himself, according to an ABC News analysis of new campaign finance records.
This includes a $423,000 payment to his Mar-a-Lago resort and $349,000 to Tag Air, which operates his planes and helicopters. He also paid $125,000 to Trump Restaurants LLC and $65,000 to two of his Florida golf courses.
In total, $1,100,513 of the $6,735,026 he spent in May (16 percent) went to his own businesses, family or personal accounts.
The numbers come after a lackluster public filing for Trump, showing the campaign brought in only $3.1 million in fundraising, got a $2.2 million loan from the candidate and has only $1.3 million left in the bank.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton and her super PAC have nearly $100 million in the bank combined, together taking in $38 million in May.
Trump sent the first fundraising email of his campaign this afternoon, saying he would be “personally matching every dollar that comes in WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS, up to $2 million!” He had boasted throughout the primary process that he would be self-funding his campaign.
Trump spent more than $200,000 in May on his “Make America great again” red hats. He dropped an additional $700,000 on T-shirts, mugs and stickers.
He spent $1.5 million on various consulting agencies, in areas such as field consulting, ballot access and event consulting. About $900,000 went to travel.
