Trump gets McDonald's delivered to White House to tout 'no tax on tips' policy
President Donald Trump on Monday had two bags of McDonald's delivered to the White House by "DoorDash Grandma" to promote his "no tax on tips" policy.
"This doesn’t look staged, does it?" Trump joked as he greeted his dasher, Sharon Simmons, just outside the Oval Office.
Simmons, sporting a red shirt with "DoorDash Grandma" lettering, said the delivery included the president's favorites from the fast-food chain and personally thanked him for the legislation.
"It's good. It has helped my family out immensely and I definitely appreciate it," she said.
DoorDash said in a statement that it was the first-ever delivery inside the White House.
The White House said Trump delivered the order of cheeseburgers and fries to his staff in the West Wing.
When a reporter asked Simmons if the White House was a good tipper, the president reached into his pocket, pulled out a $100 bill and handed it to her.
President Trump noted that Simmons' husband, who she later identified as Leo, was currently battling cancer and that the policy "goes a long way."
"He's doing very well," Simmons said, going on to explain that her husband wrote a book during the treatment process. Trump then asked her to share the title with the press.
"He hasn't had it published yet, but it's -- it's a book on humility," she said.
Trump invited the couple to the UFC fight planned to take place on the White House South Lawn later this year as part of events planned for America's 250th birthday.
At one point, Trump veered off into the topic of transgender athletes, pressing Simmons on her opinion as she repeatedly declined to weigh in.
"I really don't have an opinion on that," she said.
"You don't? I'll bet you do," Trump said.
"No, no. I'm here about no tax on tips," she said.
