UNICEF's Haiti Relief Efforts
June 2, 2010— -- UNICEF in Haiti is responding to a true children's emergency in which 1.5 million boys and girls remain vulnerable.
In the wake of the January 2010 earthquake, UNICEF's work has prevented a second disaster:
Vaccination campaigns have prevented significant disease outbreaks
Feeding programs have prevented a rise in the number of malnourished children
Protection of women and children is a priority in the displaced camps
At work in over 150 countries, UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian aid organization.
Its long-term presence in Haiti and global experience in disaster relief and recovery ensures that UNICEF will be key player in the country's transformation from a perilous place for kids into a " Haiti Fit for Children."
