Police have released surveillance footage of two suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Penn State University student over the weekend.

William "Billy" Schmidt, 22, was shot in the chest at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in an apparent robbery, according to Philadelphia police.

In surveillance footage of the suspects released on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Police Department said the two are seen walking in the area prior to encountering the victim and then at their last known location following the shooting, at which point they had discarded their hooded sweatshirts and masks.

Police said one of the suspects was wearing a black mask and a light gray, custom-designed "KONFUSED" sweatshirt. The "distinct" sweatshirt, which featured three skulls and crossbones and a "bejeweled halo above each skull," was recovered during the investigation, police said.

The second suspect, the alleged shooter, was wearing dark clothing and a camouflage-colored mask, police said. He was armed with a handgun, police said.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction, police said.

Billy Schmidt had been watching the NBA Finals game with his friends at a bar and was walking home when he was killed, his sister, Anna Schmidt, told ABC News.

The Schmidt family will attend a vigil and protest in Philadelphia on Thursday evening called "Justice for Billy."

"We are taking our streets back. ... we won't stop until our community is safe," the event's flyer said.

Anna Schmidt said her brother, an avid Philadelphia sports fan, "was one of the nicest, most genuine and honestly, goofiest, people there is."

She recalled the day they ran a 10K together in April, and described how her brother slowed his pace to stay with her.

"His average pace is, like, 8 minutes a mile, but he stayed with me ... he was more concerned of just staying with me the whole time," she said. "Every time I stopped to take a break, he stopped with me."

Billy Schmidt was studying digital journalism and media at Penn State World Campus, according to the university.

He was set to graduate in December and hoped to work in sports broadcasting, his sister said.

"We are heartbroken over the tragic death of William Schmidt, and we share our deepest condolences with his family and friends," a Penn State spokesperson said in a statement.
