— -- A new tip in the case of an 18-year-old college student who has been missing for a month led police to search a pond about 40 miles away from the coastal Virginia town of Norfolk, where she was last seen.

Anjelica "AJ" Hadsell was last seen on March 2, according to the Norfolk Police Department. On Friday, authorities searched a pond in Carrsville, Virginia after receiving a tip, according to ABC affiliate WVEC-TV.

Carrsville resident Steven Hines told WVEC-TV that he saw divers in the water but didn't know what they were searching for.

Hines also said police showed him a photo of a white van, which he had seen drive through the area twice about a week and a half ago, WVEC-TV reports.

Police were continuing search efforts and haven't ruled out any possibilities, Sam Shenouda of the Norfolk Police Department told ABC News today.

Hadsell, a freshman at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, was home for spring break when she disappeared from her family's home in Norfolk.

Two days later, Norfolk police received a tip that Hadsell had been seen on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, two hours away from where she was last seen by her family.

Investigators have said there is no evidence of foul play, but her family and friends say she wouldn't disappear on purpose.

"This is not Anjelica," her friend Andre Barr told ABC News. "We all know her, we know how she would act and this is not -- this is out of character."

Police describe Hadsell as standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds.

ABC News' Corinne Cathcart contributed to this report.
