Your Week in Three Words: OK Go
May 1, 2010— -- This week's edition of Your Week in Three Words is set to the music of Ok Go and its track "This Too Shall Pass" from the band's latest album "Of the Blue Colour of the Sky."
To know them is to know their videos, and you can't mention OK Go without getting visions of treadmills in your head. From their Webby (and Grammy) winning treadmill introduction to the world with their song "Here It Goes Again," OK Go hopes to do the unthinkable with their latest single and video for "This Too Shall Pass": Top themselves.
The second version of the music video is almost four minutes long and features a Rube Goldberg machine in action, ending with each member getting hit in the face with a paint cannon. It took only a couple dozen tries to finally get the one-shot video in the can. It's trending to be just as viral as their first hit. (The first version of the music video is also done in one take and features a live recording of the band performing the song with the help of a marching band.)
Originally from Chicago, the band is now based in Los Angeles and includes Damian Kulash (lead vocals and guitar), Tim Nordwind (bass guitar and vocals), Dan Konopka (drums and percussion) and Andy Ross (guitar, keyboards and vocals), who replaced original member Andy Duncan in 2005.
Kulash met Nordwind at Interlochen Arts camp when they were both 11, and based their band's name on their art teacher saying, "OK ... go!" before they were allowed to start drawing. Exchanging mixtapes with each other after they left, they met Andy Duncan in high school and Dan Konopka in college, officially forming the band OK Go in 1998.
They served as the house band for the NPR program "This American Life" with Ira Glass for the show's fifth anniversary tour. Glass wrote the band's first official biography, calling them "living catnip."
OK Go is now working on a music video for their song "End Love" and touring to promote "Of the Blue Colour of the Sky."
