What Will the Princes Wear?

April 28 2011— -- For the Royal Wedding, each Prince of England will wear his respective military uniform.

A St James Palace spokesperson reveals that though Prince William is commissioned in all three British Armed Services, he has chosen to wear the uniform of his senior honorary appointment-–Royal Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Prince William's uniform includes a Forage cap, two sashes and a tunic. The Forage cap is embellished with the Irish Guard insignia—an eight-pointed star of the Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick. The first gold and crimson sash features gold sword slings, worn in the presence of a member of the Royal family. The second sash will feature the Wings of the Royal Air Force and the Garter Star, given to the highest order of knighthood in Great Britain. The bright red tunic has the characteristic Irish Guard four-button arrangement. On each button is a Harp of Ireland surmounted by the Imperial Crown.

Prince Harry will look cavalier in his Blues and Royals officer's uniform. Included in his attire will be a Forage cap decorated by the Blues and Royals badge. His uniform will also have aiguillettes on the shoulders, a cross-belt and a gold waist belt. Prince Harry will proudly wear medals for the Wings of the Army Air Corps and Afghanistan Campaign.

Neither prince will wear a sword. But both will honor their grandmother by sporting a Golden Jubilee Medal, celebrating the Queen's 50th anniversary as British monarch.

Appropriately, Prince William's Irish Guards Regiment motto is 'Quis Separabit?' ('Who shall separate us?') Tomorrow, the two brothers will face the world united in fraternity, shrouded in British military tradition.
