What Could Prince William and Jack the Ripper Have in Common?

ByASHLEY PESKOE

Feb. 22, 2011— -- Prince William and Kate Middleton have said they don't want wedding gifts, but the prince will likely receive one special thing from the queen: a new title.

In the past, Queen Elizabeth pronounced Prince Andrew the duke of York, earl of Inverness and baron Killyleagh when he married Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson, and she bestowed Prince Edward with earl of Wessex when he married Sophie Rhys-Jones.

The Daily Mail reports the queen is set to make William a royal duke, which would make Kate Middleton a duchess. The dukedom of Clarence is available as a title, but Prince William might want to think twice before accepting it. The last person to hold it was Prince Albert Victor, who died of pneumonia in 1892 at the age of 28. Years after his death, author Philippe Julien alleged Prince Albert was Jack the Ripper, the infamous murderer.

Could this title carry bad blood?
