State significance
Harris was expected to handily take the solid-blue state. Anchored by strong support in the Chicago metro area, Democrats have long dominated Illinois, winning every presidential contest there dating back to 1992.
In Illinois' 17th Congressional District race, freshman Rep. Eric Sorenson bested his Republican challenger Joe McGraw, according to ABC News' projections.
Counties are colored red or blue when the % expected vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on patterns of past vote reporting and expectations about how the vote will report this year.
