As the winner of the presidential race in Washington, the vice president would take the state’s 12 electoral votes.

State significance

Washington state has not been won by a Republican presidential candidate in the general election since President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

The state had some contentious U.S. House primaries in August, and the 3rd Congressional District matchup between incumbent Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Pérez and Republican challenger Joe Kent is considered a potentially tight race.

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell is projected to win reelection.

Voters also decided on who will replace Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee, who decided not to run for reelection. In the governor race, Democrat Bob Ferguson is projected to defeat Republican Dave Reichert.

Counties are colored red or blue when the % expected vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on patterns of past vote reporting and expectations about how the vote will report this year.
