Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said the flight followed procedures to divert \"after a performance issue with one of the Boeing MD-88 aircraft’s two engines was observed.\"

He added the plane landed safely and taxied to a gate where technicians were examining the aircraft and that another aircraft from Atlanta would continue the flight to LaGuardia.

\"Delta’s top priority on every flight is safety and apologizes for the delay,\" Durrant said.
