\"We knew if rumblings and rumors started coming out, they would just be that, because by the time anybody knew anything it was over. It was done,\" he added. \"Our whole thing was, we are going to be cool about this, it is what it is. We're buddies.\"

TMZ broke the news that the couple had split and Shelton joked, \"You can't get away with anything fun anymore because of them.\"

At the time of the split in mid-July, Shelton and Lambert told the Associated Press, \"This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.\"

The couple have been together for about a decade and married in 2011 in Texas after five years of dating.
