The longtime groomer shared some tips with \"Good Morning America\" to help out any dog dads and moms who want to maintain a regular care routine from home.

\"The golden rule to maintain your pet's coat is to brush your dog,\" she said.

\"Some dogs are not used to their owners washing them so you want to be [as] prepared as possible and have everything that you need. So that they're comfortable, and you're comfortable,\" Mitchner advised.

Ensure shampoo products are pet safe

Mitchner said it's always smart to err on the side of caution when it comes to grooming products.

\"If you do not have dog shampoo use baby shampoo. Any hypoallergenic, tearless shampoo,\" she said. \"Human shampoo equals human problems and we don't want any dry coats or irritation.\"

Keeping a clean mouth

\"Pet dental 101 don't use human grade toothpaste,\" Mitchner said. \"You want to use pet toothpaste. I recommend meat flavor!\"

Every little trim helps

Mitchner also reminded pet owners that a little bit of upkeep can go a long way.

\"It's really about maintenance so that when you get back to the groomer, we have something to work with,\" she said. \"Snip the bangs out of the eyes, and make sure there are no mats and tangles on the body.\"
