Fans in the comments section were not used seeing McLean without his beard and mustache. One wrote \"TELL ME WHYY\" in reference to the lyrics to the Backstreet Boys song \"I Want it That Way.\"

Another fan replied with another lyric from the hit 1999 song, writing, \"Ain’t nothing but a mistake!\"

\"If I see you on the streets, I wouldn't recognize you,\" another person joked.

Other fans were supportive of the change, with many telling McLean they love him -- scruffy-faced or not.
