ByStephanie Moore, M.D., Cardiologist, Massachusetts General Hospital Heart Center
March 03, 2009, 4:53 PM

— -- Question: How does exercise affect my risk of getting heart failure?

Answer: Lack of exercise is related to the risk factors of congestive heart failure. Those who exercise less develop more hypertension, diabetes, obesity, sleep apnea. As well, those who exercise less have more depression, and this is true in both men and women. Exercise is overall good for your cardiovascular health, and through this, you can decrease your chance of developing congestive heart failure.
