President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.

Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, initial U.S.-Iran talks in Pakistan earlier this month failed to reach a peace deal. On Tuesday, Trump announced he was extending the ceasefire and continuing the blockade until Iran's proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded "one way or the other."

Trump says Iran sent new peace offer

President Donald Trump claimed that about ten minutes after he announced the cancellation of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s trip to Pakistan for diplomatic talks on Saturday morning, Iran sent over a fresh peace offer that was “much better” than what they would have gone into the meeting working with.

When asked by reporters what changed since Friday, the president responded, “Nothing."

"It's just that they gave us a paper that should have been better. And interestingly, immediately, when I canceled it, within ten minutes, we got a new paper that was much better,” Trump added.

The president suggested that the U.S. communicated again with Iran his red line that the regime could not have any nuclear weapons.

Trump cancels Witkoff, Kushner’s trip to Islamabad for peace talks

President Donald Trump has canceled the trip by his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to Islamabad for another round of peace talks due to Iran’s posture during the negotiations, the president said in a social media post Saturday.

"Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work! Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their 'leadership.' Nobody knows who is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none!" he said.

With the Iranian Foreign Minister having left Pakistan ahead of Witkoff and Kushner's arrival, Trump said that if Iran wants to negotiate, "all they have to do is call."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Friday that it was the Iranians who requested these rounds of negotiations despite claims from the regime that they had no plans to speak trilaterally.

UK and Finland say attacks on journalists in Lebanon 'unacceptable'

Attacks on journalists in Lebanon are unacceptable, the United Kingdom's Foreign Office said in a joint statement with Finland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saturday.

The statement comes after the killing of journalist Amal Khalil on Wednesday in an Israel strike.

In the statement, both countries condemned the violence against journalist and media workers.

The IDF said they are investigating the incident and has repeated that it “does not target journalists and acts to mitigate harm to them while maintaining the safety and security of its troops.”

"We call on the Israeli authorities and all other parties to make every effort to ensure that media workers in Lebanon can conduct their work freely and safely," the statement said.

The U.K. and Finland are co-chairs of the Media Freedom Coalition.

Israeli attacks have killed at least seven journalists in Lebanon, according to the Committee for the Protection of Journalists.

Iran says 'significant portion' of Iran’s missile capacity remains unused

Iran’s Defense Ministry says it has developed more than 1,000 types of domestically produced weapons, including missiles, drones and other military systems.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Reza Talaei-Nik speaking on State TV said the capabilities are the result of more than 25 years of investment in Iran’s defense industry, with around 9,000 companies involved in supporting production.

While the United States says it has significantly degraded Iran’s missile capability, the spokesperson said a “significant portion” of Iran’s missile capacity remains unused.

Chinese spokesperson responds to Trump cargo ship remarks

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said during a Wednesday press briefing that Beijing is fulfilling its "due international obligations" after President Donald Trump said U.S. forces enforcing the blockade of Iran in the Persian Gulf intercepted a vessel carrying what he described as a "gift from China."

Trump told CNBC on Tuesday, "We caught a ship yesterday that had some things on it, which wasn't very nice, a gift from China, perhaps, I don't know, but I was a little surprised, but because I have a very good relationship, and I thought I had an understanding with President Xi [Jinping], but that's all right, that's the way war goes, right?"

Guo said Wednesday, "China has stated its position many times. We would like to reiterate that, as a responsible major power, China has consistently and exemplary fulfilled its due international obligations."

Nikki Haley, who served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during Trump's first term, alleged on Tuesday that a tanker disabled and intercepted by U.S. forces over the weekend was en route to Iran from China and carrying chemicals used to produce missile fuel.

Guo said on Tuesday that the vessel was "a foreign container ship" and that Beijing "rejects any false association and speculation."
