More than a month into the war with Iran, President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One Sunday that negotiations with the country are still ongoing, “directly and indirectly,” and that he could “see a deal” with the country coming through “soon.”

"I do see a deal in Iran, yeah. Could be soon," he said.

However, he also acknowledged that “it’s possible we won’t” come to a deal and added, “you never know with Iran.”

Asked if he is still considering boots on the ground and if he would consider doing so without Congressional approval, Trump did not reply yes or no, instead insisting that he has “lots of alternatives.”

“I just have lots of alternatives. We have tremendous numbers of ships over there. We don't need them all because of, you know, the power,” Trump said.

A United Nations peacekeeper was killed over the weekend "when a projectile exploded in a UNIFIL position" in Southern Lebanon, according to the organization. Another peacekeeper was critically injured.

UNIFIL, the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, said it does not know where the projectile originated from, and an investigation is ongoing.

"Too many lives have been lost on both sides of the Blue Line in this conflict. There is no military solution. The violence must end," UNIFIL said.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said in an update on Sunday that 1,238 people have been killed since the start of the war in Lebanon, with 3,543 people injured.

The health ministry said 49 people were killed on Sunday, with 116 injured.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Sunday that the country would "host and facilitate meaningful talks between the two sides in coming days, for a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the ongoing conflict."

Dar made the announcement after a meeting in Islamabad with foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt.

Neither the U.S. nor Iran has confirmed when these talks would take place, whether they will be direct or indirect, and who will be involved in them for either side. In recent days, the U.S. has sent the Iranian regime, through the Pakistani government, a 15-point proposal for ending the conflict.

"Pakistan also has a very important relationship with the United States. We have remained actively engaged with the U.S. leadership as well, as part of our efforts to de-escalate the situation and finding a peaceful resolution of the conflict," Dar said. "In this context, Pakistan is very happy that both Iran and the U.S. have expressed their confidence in Pakistan to facilitate the talks."

Dar also said he had spoken to the Chinese foreign minister and the United Nations secretary general, both of whom he said expressed their support for the initiative.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise did not refute the possibility of American ground troops entering Iran when asked on Sunday, even as many in his party have voiced concerns about such a move.

"There are no boots on the ground today, but we're having a lot of conversations about what could happen next," Scalise told ABC News' "This Week." "But I think most people, most civilized people, recognize a nuclear-armed Iran is not an option that any of us want."

President Donald Trump is moving as many as 5,000 ground troops into the Middle East while declining to say whether they could ultimately be ordered into combat in Iran. Some 1,500 paratroopers from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division are preparing to deploy, according to a U.S. official. At the same time, Marine units based in Japan are sailing toward the region, with additional Marines from California potentially following in the weeks ahead.

Scalise said that he would not answer whether there would be widespread support from Republicans for ground troops in Iran because it has not yet happened.

"We're not at that point yet. Obviously you're seeing troop movement and we've got a number of bases in that region, too, that have been there for a long time," Scalise said. "So until that day comes, I'm not going to speculate, and you're not going to see the president go negotiate this in public."
