Hamas responded Friday to President Donald Trump's proposal for peace in Gaza, as the president gave a deadline of 6 p.m. ET Sunday to sign on to the plan he unveiled earlier this week.

Hamas said it will release all remaining hostages if Israel withdraws from Gaza and "proper field conditions are met." More negotiations will need to take place to finalize the deal, which Trump unveiled Monday while hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

Any agreement could mean an end to the Israel Defense Forces' operation to take control of Gaza City, the largest urban area in the Gaza Strip.

Multiple Western nations recognized Palestinian statehood in recent weeks while also demanding that Hamas not be part of any future government.

Netanyahu said that Israel will not allow an independent Palestinian state to exist.

Trump says Gaza peace negotiations 'will last a couple of days'

Leaving the White House for the Navy’s 250th celebration on Sunday, President Donald Trump continued to celebrate his Gaza peace proposal while admitting that negotiations are still ongoing.

“They're in negotiation right now as we speak, they've started the negotiation. It will last a couple of days. We'll see how it turns out. But I'm hearing it's going very well,” Trump said.

Trump was pressed by a reporter on his faith in a Palestinian Authority to control Gaza without Hamas influence, getting mad at the reporter for doubting the deal.

“Well, it's a great deal for Israel, and it's a great deal for everybody. And you want to get hostages back, right? You want them back? Or do you not want them back?” Trump quipped at the reporter who said she worked for an Israeli media company.

“It's a great deal for Israel. It's a great deal for the entire Arab world, Muslim world, and world. So we're very happy,” Trump said.

Trump’s irritation comes as Axios reported Sunday morning, Trump got mad when Netanyahu said there was nothing to celebrate after Trump called him to discuss Hamas’ “yes” to his peace proposal.

“I don’t know why you’re always so f---king negative. This is a win. Take it,” Axios reported.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post to X that she would "encourage all parties to now seize this opportunity. The EU stands ready to contribute."

EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas said the plan "is an opportunity for lasting peace. It offers the best immediate chance to end the war."

"Hamas must now accept it without delay, starting with the immediate release of hostages," Kallas said.

European Council President Antonio Costa said he was "encouraged" by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "positive response" to the proposal.

But both Costa and von der Leyen stressed that a two-state solution with the creation of an independent Palestinian state -- something Netanyahu has repeatedly said he will not allow -- is the only viable path to lasting peace.

The proposed plan does not include a clear commitment to a future independent Palestinian state.

The White House draft of the agreement says that, after the redevelopment of Gaza and reforms to the Palestinian Authority, "the conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people."
