Lady Gaga unveils 'Hold My Hand,' a new song for 'Top Gun: Maverick'

Lady Gaga's voice will be heard in the upcoming Tom Cruise action thriller "Top Gun: Maverick."

The 13-time Grammy winner announced Wednesday that her new song, "Hold My Hand," will be featured in the film. The song drops May 3, and the "Top Gun" sequel hits theaters on May 27.

Lady Gaga began cryptically tweeting out the single's lyrics at the start of the week. "Hold my hand everything will be ok I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey," she tweeted Monday, continuing to tweet out lyrics in the following days.

The tweet energized the pop star's fanbase, because the line didn't match any from her previous songs. The dayslong tease then culminated with her exciting reveal of "Hold My Hand" being on the "Top Gun: Maverick" soundtrack.

"When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn't even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film's heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we've been living in," Lady Gaga wrote on Instagram. "I've been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours."

"I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other—a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life's heroes," she continued.

Lady Gaga called "Hold My Hand" a "love letter to the world during and after a very hard time," adding that she has wanted her fans to hear it "for so long."
