Police are searching for suspects after a reporter for InfoWars, the website run by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, was shot dead outside his apartment complex in Austin, Texas, authorities said.

The victim, Jamie White, 36, was found lying on the ground in the parking lot around 11:56 p.m. Sunday, Austin police said.

The suspects were breaking into White's Kia when White interrupted them, Austin police Detective Jason Jones said at a news conference Wednesday.

The suspects fled the scene after the shooting. The suspects' car -- which was reported stolen a few days before White was killed -- has since been recovered, Jason Jones said.

It's possible the suspects were responsible for other car break-ins, the detective said.

The detective warned Austin residents to be cautious if they see someone breaking into their car. If you encounter a break-in, call 911 and try to provide a description of the suspects and their car, he said.

InfoWars is based in Austin.

Alex Jones wrote on X, "We pledge that Jamie’s tragic death will not be in vain, and those responsible for this senseless violence will be brought to justice."
