Police are searching for suspects after a reporter for InfoWars, the website run by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, was shot dead outside his apartment complex in Austin, Texas, authorities said.
The victim, Jamie White, 36, was found lying on the ground in the parking lot around 11:56 p.m. Sunday, Austin police said.
The suspects were breaking into White's Kia when White interrupted them, Austin police Detective Jason Jones said at a news conference Wednesday.
MORE: Menendez brothers to appear at parole board hearings in June, Newsom saysThe suspects fled the scene after the shooting. The suspects' car -- which was reported stolen a few days before White was killed -- has since been recovered, Jason Jones said.
It's possible the suspects were responsible for other car break-ins, the detective said.

InfoWars is based in Austin.
Alex Jones wrote on X, "We pledge that Jamie’s tragic death will not be in vain, and those responsible for this senseless violence will be brought to justice."
The suspects "have no regard for human life," Jason Jones added.
