In his 2014 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama declared that “Today, all our troops are out of Iraq.”

As the president prepares to address Congress tonight, more than 2,000 U.S. troops have returned to Iraq, helping to train, assist and support the Iraqi forces as they face the threat posed by the extremist jihadi group ISIS.

ISIS now controls large portions of the northwestern part of the country.
