Police say they arrested a drunk DoorDash driver, then delivered the order themselves

WATCH: Police arrest alleged drunk DoorDash driver and deliver customer’s food

After arresting a DoorDash driver for allegedly driving while intoxicated, officers in Florida did the one thing he couldn't -- deliver his customer's dinner.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers arrested Luis Alania Estrella, 25, after he was reported unconscious at a traffic light, then proceeded to deliver his DoorDash order for him.

Officers were dispatched at 8:14 p.m. Thursday to the intersection at Skyline Blvd and Cape Coral Pkwy, where they found Estrella asleep and unresponsive at the wheel, according to body cam footage of the arrest.

In the video, Estrella can be seen telling the officers that he is driving for DoorDash in Spanish, concerned for his delivery.

According to authorities, Estrella's Blood Alcohol Content was 0.15% almost double the legal drinking and driving limit of 0.8% in Florida, per state laws.

"Through observations of impairment and subsequent investigation, officers determined that Estrella was under the influence and placed him under arrest for DUI," a press release from the Cape Coral Police Department reads, in part.

"In an effort to assist the community member awaiting their meal, one of the responding officers took the initiative to deliver the food order to its final destination. The actions of the officer helped ensure the resident received the meal safely and without unnecessary delay," the press release added.

A DoorDash spokesperson told ABC News the company has a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving.

"DoorDash has zero tolerance for driving under the influence – every single Dasher is required to follow the law, period. This individual has been permanently removed from the DoorDash platform. We’re grateful to local law enforcement for keeping the community safe and going above and beyond to deliver this customer’s dinner," the statement read.

Officer Mercedes Simonds, a spokesperson for the Cape Coral Police Department, said that she hoped the recipients of the DoorDash delivery were happy they received their food.

"Having that officer stop by, I'm sure the people were not expecting to have an officer show up at their door, but in this case, hopefully they were happy that they were there," Simonds told WBBH.

Estrella was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license and was taken to Lee County Jail in good health, per police.
