Ariana Grande wins first Grammy after public feud with producer
After a very public war of words with the show's producer, Ariana Grande took home her first Grammy Sunday night, though she wasn't there to accept it.
Before the show began, it was announced that she won best pop vocal album winner for her record, "Sweetener."
After the news broke, she tweeted, "i know i’m not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things .... but f--- ....... ?? this is wild and beautiful. thank you so much."
Although she did not attend the award show, she still decided to dress up in the look designer Zac Posen made her for the big night.
Grande shared several photos wearing the strapless gown on her Instagram.
"When @zacposen makes u a custom gown it doesn’t matter if you’re singing or not .... thank u," she captioned the shot.
All this comes after the singer retweeted an Associated Press report Thursday in which Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich was quoted as saying that Grande "felt it was too late for her to pull something together." Well, apparently, Grande didn't feel that that's what happened.
"Mhmmm here it is! -- 'too late for her to pull something together,'" Grande tweeted. "I’ve kept my mouth shut but now you’re lying about me."
"i can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken," she said "it was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend. i hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more."
"i offered 3 different songs. it’s about collaboration. it’s about feeling supported," she went on. "it’s about art and honesty. not politics. not doing favors or playing games. it’s just a game y’all.. and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me ... Hope that helps everyone understand my decision. i am still grateful for the acknowledgement this year."
Earlier Thursday, Ehrlich told ABC News that the singer wouldn't be performing but didn't say why.
