— -- After confirmation Tuesday that iconic actress Carrie Fisher died, her former co-stars and other Hollywood heavyweights began expressing their sadness and condolences.

Family representative Simon Halls said Tuesday, "It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother, Carrie Fisher, passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world, and she will be missed profoundly."

Fisher was 60.

Mark Hamill, one of Fisher's best-known co-stars, expressed what most of her colleagues felt upon learning about Fisher's death: "no words #Devastated," wrote the actor, who played Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" franchise.

And Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo in "Stars Wars," said in a statement Tuesday, "Carrie was one-of-a-kind … brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely ... My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her mother Debbie, her brother Todd and her many friends. We will all miss her."

Bob Iger, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Walt Disney Co. — the corporate parent of Lucasfilm, which produces the "Stars Wars" films — said in a statement, "Carrie Fisher was one of a kind, a true character who shared her talent and her truth with us all with her trademark wit and irreverence. Millions fell in love with her as the indomitable Princess Leia; she will always have a special place in the hearts of 'Star Wars' fans as well as all of us who were lucky enough to know her personally." (The Walt Disney Co. is also ABC News' corporate parent.)

Other celebrities — from William Shatner to Ellen DeGeneres to Seth MacFarlane — took to Twitter to express their sadness.
