Cary Elwes reveals he gave 'Princess Bride' sword to Rob Reiner
Nearly four decades after "The Princess Bride" became a beloved classic, Cary Elwes shared what happened to one of the film’s most memorable props.
In a May 5 interview with the "Wall Street Journal," Elwes revealed that he no longer has the sword he used in the iconic film.
When asked about the prop, Elwes replied, "No, I gave it to Rob Reiner on the last day of filming. My memories of the film are my greatest keepsake," he said.
Elwes famously portrayed Westley in the 1987 fairy tale adventure directed by Rob Reiner. The film went on to become a cult favorite, thanks in part to its quotable dialogue, swashbuckling action and ensemble cast that included Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal and André the Giant.
The actor has also publicly reflected on his longtime friendship with Reiner in recent months. On March 6, Elwes shared an Instagram photo of the two together in honor of what would have been Reiner’s 79th birthday.
"Today would have been your 79th birthday. Still hard to believe you're gone. Missing you so much #robreiner ⚔️💔," he wrote in the caption.
The actor's comments come during an emotional time for the Reiner family just months after the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.
The Reiners' son, Jake Reiner, recently returned to his baseball show, "The Incline: Dodgers Podcast," after speaking publicly about the deaths of his parents.
Jake Reiner had previously described the loss as a "living nightmare." During the May 6 episode of the podcast, he thanked listeners for their support, saying, "I have seen all the love, all the support out there."
