'The Daily Show' Host Trevor Noah: 5 Things to Know About Him

— -- Since Jon Stewart announced in February that he would be stepping down from "The Daily Show," fans of the Comedy Central series have wondered who was going to take his place.

Finally, there's an answer: 31-year-old comedian Trevor Noah.

Many people in the United States are unfamiliar with him, so here are a few things to know about the man stepping into Stewart's shoes:

1. He's from South Africa: Noah, who speaks six languages, hails from South Africa and is the son of a black Xhosa mother and a white Swiss father. At the time of the apartheid, theirs was an illegal union. "My mother had to be very clandestine about who my father was," Noah told The New York Times. "He couldn’t be on my birth certificate."

2. He's a newcomer to the show: Noah joined "The Daily Show" this past December and has appeared in two episodes this year.

3. He didn't try out for the new role: According to The New York Times, Noah didn't audition for the host role. Instead, the decision was made by the network with Stewart's guidance. “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor,” Stewart told the newspaper in a statement. “He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.” Mr. Stewart added that he “may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”

4. He's an avid traveler: At the time of the announcement, Noah was in Dubai, but this year, he's already racked up a few passport stamps. In 2015, he's also already visited Cape Town, New York City, London and Chicago.

5. He's ready for the job: Noah told the New York Times that he's already received words of encouragement from Stewart, who reminded him that at the time he began hosting the show, he too was a newcormer. “Now,” Noah told the newspaper, "It’s my turn to steer the ship.”
