Disney Channel cancels 'Descendants 3' red carpet in honor of Cameron Boyce
The Disney Channel is finding a number of ways to honor the memory of late actor Cameron Boyce.
Boyce, who appeared in the Disney Channel's series, "Jessie," and its "Descendants" franchise, died Saturday night of an epileptic seizure.
On Thursday, the Disney Channel announced that they are canceling the July 22 red carpet premiere for "Descendants 3," and instead, its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, will make a donation to one of Boyce's favorite charities, The Thirst Project, which focuses on providing clean drinking water to those who need it.
With the permission of his family, the Disney Channel will also dedicate the telecast of "Descendants 3" to Boyce.
Boyce was 20 when he died on July 6 of what his family said at the time was a seizure caused by an "ongoing medical condition."
"From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples' lives through his humanitarian work," said a Disney Channel spokesperson at the time. "He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend."
Boyce made his acting debut in the film, "Mirrors," when he was 9, and then appeared in "Grown-Ups," as one of Adam Sandler's children. In addition to his work on the Disney Channel, he was set to appear in a new HBO show, "Mrs. Fletcher," and a series called "Paradise City."
His sudden death has left his family and those who loved him reeling.
"We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family, and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral--which in and of itself, is agonizing," his family said in a statement Tuesday.
Disney is also the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
