Jamie Foxx remembers his late sister DeOndra on World Down Syndrome Day
Jamie Foxx shared an emotional tribute for his late sister DeOndra Dixon on World Down Syndrome Day.
The actor's younger sister, who had Down syndrome, died in October 2020 at the age of 36. She was a Special Olympics athlete and an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. She was also the first recipient of the foundation's Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award.
In a social media post, Foxx said he still feels his sister's presence in his life. "My heart 💔💔💔 my breath ... my soul... I hear your laughter in the house... I hear you sliding down the stairs... my heart... my breath... my soul... I love u Deondra my angel #worlddownsyndromeday2021," he captioned a photo of Dixon.
His post was flooded with supportive comments remembering Dixon. "God bless you and Your family Jamie! Your sister was sweet and sassy and funny and Loved you. I feel honored to have met such a light! ❤️🙏🏽" Queen Latifah commented.
"🌹🙏🏾 we are gonna keep her memory alive 🌹🙏🏾 " Snoop Dogg added.
At the time of Dixon's death, Foxx shared a special tribute featuring photos with her. He wrote about how much of an impact she made on his life.
"Anyone who knew my sis... knew that she was a bright light... I can’t tell you how many times we have had parties at the house where she has got on the dance floor and stolen the show..." he wrote.
"Well I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on...tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me... my family... and her friends…" he added. Their family did not publicly reveal the cause of Dixon's death at the time.
The actor gave an update on how his family is coping with her loss during an interview with Rachel Lindsay on "Extra" in December 2020.
"You know what? We are getting along," he said. "Earlier, when it happened, it was so abrupt. It was so much pain, man. My mother, my father, and my sister, they all live with me, and so it was so much pain."
"We will remember and will continuously remember her in a joyous way," he said.
