Sept. 28, 2013— -- The U.K. Royal Mint is rolling out commemorative coins to celebrate the christening of Prince William and Kate's firstborn, according to its website.

Prince George Alexander Louis will be christened at the Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace on Oct. 23, just over three months after his birth, The Associated Press reported.

Approved by the palace, this the first time a coin has been released for a royal christening, the Royal Mint said.

The five-pound coin comes in gold, silver, platinum or a more affordable option, and boast a price tag that ranges from 13 pounds to more than 8,000 pounds, according to the website. The coin's design has yet to be released.

The coins may be the only way the public can take part in celebrating the third in line to the British throne's christening, which will be a private event, The Associated Press reported.

Unlike Prince William, his father Prince Charles and the queen, who were all christened at Buckingham Palace, the royal baby's christening will be held in the same venue where Princess Diana's coffin was laid for her family to pay last respects before her funeral in 1997, according to the AP. Prince Harry was christened at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The baby's official title is His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. He was born July 22 at 4:24 p.m. London time. He weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, according to an official announcement from Kensington Palace four hours after the birth.
