Skier Breezy Johnson gets engaged at 2026 Winter Olympics super-G finish line
After winning her first Olympic gold medal on Sunday at the 2026 Winter Games in Cortina, Italy, American skier Breezy Johnson fell short at the super-G event just four days later, but she still managed to walk away with a shiny silver lining: an engagement ring presented to her at the finish line.
Johnson's boyfriend Connor Watkins was waiting for her at the base of the alpine ski run at Olimpia delle Tofane on Thursday and proposed to her in front of her fellow skiers and competitors.
Johnson said yes.
The 30-year-old from Jackson, Wyoming, shared the news afterward on Instagram, posting a carousel of photos, including a snapshot of Watkins down on one knee.
"Hey guys... meet Connor! My ex boyfriend! And current fiancé!!!" she wrote in the caption. "Thank you to everyone who made this moment possible. It was everything I ever dreamed of. Kind of like Connor!"
The carousel of images also included photos of two smiling at each other and embracing, as well as a photo of Johnson's engagement ring alongside a wooden ring box engraved with the words, "Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy," a line from pop star Taylor Swift's 2024 song "The Alchemy."
Swift herself commented on Johnson's post, quoting another line from the song before writing, "CONGRATULATIONS!!!"
"I always dreamed of getting proposed to at the Olympics," Johnson said after the big moment, according to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team.
Watkins, Johnson's newly minted fiance, added, "I have been planning this for a year, it was a challenge but I had a lot of people helping me so it paid off and we are happy."
Team USA said this year's super-G course "proved difficult for many racers," including Johnson, who was one of 17 competitors with a did-not-finish result in Thursday's race.
"The weather and changing conditions made it difficult for the women to push hard and recover from mistakes," the team wrote on its website. "Nonetheless, the women pushed the limits as they all chased an opportunity to medal."
Johnson previously competed in her first Olympics at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
