Following the duo's escapades in the popular "Mandalorian" series on Disney+, the new film titled "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" sees them on a new mission.
Read on for everything to know about the new film in the "Star Wars" franchise.
What is 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' about?
Directed by Jon Favreau, "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" takes place when "the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy," according to a press release for the film.
Legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu are enlisted by the New Republic as it works to "protect everything the Rebellion fought for," the press release adds.

Who stars in the film?
Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin in the upcoming film. Jeremy Allen White also stars in the film as Rotta the Hutt and Sigourney Weaver plays Colonel Ward, a fighter and pilot from the same Rebellion that took down the Empire in the first "Star Wars" trilogy.
What has the cast said about the movie?
While visiting "Good Morning America" on May 11, Pascal talked about what it was like bringing "The Mandalorian" from a streaming experience to the big screen.
"That was my secret wish from the beginning," he said. "I love that it had beautiful seasons for people to see it at home, but now Jon Favreau, our director, knows a big screen experience puts all of his love of 'Star Wars,' all of his love of movies, into this one on the biggest screen possible. It's a thrill ride."

Pascal, who has portrayed Din Djarin for seven years now, said that it's "the longest relationship I've ever had."
"Thank God he wears a helmet," he joked. "I get to age all I want in this role."
Weaver also stopped by "GMA" on May 12 and talked about portraying Colonel Ward saying, "To play a woman who has a command like this way out in the middle of nowhere and is trying to keep this fledgling Republic alive, I really admired her."

What did Jon Favreau say about Grogu?
In April, Favreau spoke with StarWars.com and described the film as Grogu's coming-of-age story.
"If you're watching it through the eyes of Grogu, he is coming into his own," he said. "He's starting to take on more and his dad [Din Djarin] is trusting him with more responsibility."
He added that introducing a new generation to the "Star Wars" franchise is something he didn't take lightly.

"We want to make an experience that doesn't rely upon somebody already loving 'Star Wars,' but gives them an opportunity to fall in love with it the way we have," he said.
How to prepare for the new 'Star Wars' film?
While watching seasons 1-3 of "The Mandalorian" isn't needed before watching the film, it can enrich the experience. Audiences can stream all episodes of "The Mandalorian" on Disney+.
Since it's also been seven years since the last "Star Wars" film, "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," Disney+ put together a detailed guide for all the previous "Star Wars" films in chronological order, which are all available to stream now on the platform.
When will 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' arrive in theaters?
"Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" will arrive in theaters on May 22.
Disney is the parent company of ABC News and Lucasfilm.
