Whoopi Goldberg shares new 'Sister Act 3' details: 'We're working diligently'
Hallelujah! "Sister Act 3" is in the works, according to Whoopi Goldberg.
"The View" co-host recently confirmed the good news by revealing they're "working diligently" to make a third installment happen.
"For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it," Goldberg, 64, revealed Tuesday to James Corden on "The Late Late Show." "And then quite recently, it turns out, that that may not be true. People may want to see it."
"So we're working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back," she added.
The EGOT winner starred in both 1992's "Sister Act" and 1993's "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" as Deloris, a lounge singer who goes into witness protection as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence after snitching on a group of gangsters, including her boyfriend.
The original film, directed by Emile Ardolino, follows Deloris as she attempts to fit into the convent, helping her fellow nuns break out of their shells in the choir.
The sequel, directed by Bill Duke, sees the return of Sister Mary Clarence, this time as a music teacher leading a choir for Catholic students at a struggling school.
The movies also featured Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena and the late Mary Wickes alongside Goldberg and added the likes of Lauryn Hill in the second film.
"It's fun and it feels good," Goldberg continued. "And you know, nobody's mad. It's just, listen -- bad singing, great singing, OK singing and then nuns. What's better than that?"
