Sept. 20, 2013 — -- Sure, iPhone lines won't let up and iOS 7 has been downloaded in droves, but Apple's CEO still has time for the people. Not only did Tim Cook take time out today to visit the iPhone shoppers at the store in Palo Alto, Calif., but Apple's chief also joined Twitter.

"Visited Retail Stores in Palo Alto today. Seeing so many happy customers reminds us of why we do what we do," @tim_cook tweeted at 3:02 p.m. ET today. Since firing off that tweet it has over 3,297 retweets and Cook himself has gained over 65,500 followers.

Apple confirmed to ABC News that this is in fact Cook's official Twitter account and not one of the many fake accounts, like @TimCookAppleCEO or @TimCookParody.

Cook, who became CEO of Apple in August 2011 when Steve Jobs stepped down, is a very private person. Very little is known about his personal life and he has only spoken to a handful of reporters since taking over the helm.

Cook isn't the only Apple executive on Twitter; Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue and its Senior Vice President Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller are also on the social network. Those executives rarely tweet, but perhaps Cook will change the 140-character tide.
