Chelsea Clinton on Crutches After Injury

ByLEE FERRAN
April 15, 2010, 7:44 PM

April 15, 2010 — -- Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton is traveling by crutches and wearing a medical boot following an injury to her heel, a source told ABC News.

"She broke her heel," the source for Chelsea Clinton said. "She will be on crutches for the next couple of months."

Though one of the first pictures of Clinton on the crutches surfaced today, New Yorkers reported her using them as early as April 3 on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

The source did not know how the injury happened. The offices for both of Chelsea's parents, Bill and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, did not immediately return requests for comment.

With her marriage to longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky slated for later this summer, Clinton is expected to recover in time to walk the aisle without the less-than-elegant boot and crutches.

Clinton, 30, and Mezvinky, 32, son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies, were childhood friends in Washington D.C., and became close friends at Stanford University, which they both attended.

The couple announced their engagement on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, saying: "We're sorry for the mass e-mail but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc."
