— -- Stunning video released by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy on Monday shows a great white shark leaping out of the water trying to nab a seal off Cape Cod.

The shark missed, and the seal was able to get away.

An AWSC team stayed in the area after spotting an earlier predation attempt. Later on, the shark jumped out.

“We had never seen a breach out of water before,” AWSC President Cynthia Wigren said. “It was pretty incredible to see.”

The shark later achieved a successful underwater predation on a different seal, Wigren told ABC News today.

Summer usually sees an uptick in great white activity, more so this year than in the past, according to the AWSC.

Two Cape Cod beaches were closed four days ago after people saw a great white shark eating a seal and spitting it out onto the beach, according to the Associated Press.

While there have been no known shark attacks on humans in Cape Cod this year, multiple beachgoers were injured by shark bites in June and July along the North and South Carolina coasts.
