— -- In the hours surrounding his announcement for president, real estate mogul Donald Trump generated more social conversation on Facebook than any other of his Republican counterparts did in the hours surrounding their own declarations that they'd be seeking the White House in 2016.

According to estimated data released by the social media giant Facebook, "in the 24 hour period between 12:01 a.m. ET June 16 and 12:01 a.m. ET June 17, 3.4 million people on Facebook in the U.S. generated 6.4 million interactions" related to Trump and his announcement Tuesday.

Facebook defines interactions as "likes, posts, comments, shares." The sentiment -- positive, negative or neutral -- of these interactions on Facebook was not identified.

"The Apprentice" star did not, however, top former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president. An estimated 4.7 million users generated 10.1 million interactions in the hours surrounding her own presidential announcement in April.
