Four Hot and Affordable Summer Fashion Trends

May 30, 2011 — -- It's the unofficial start to summer, and warm weather brings thoughts of summer fashion.

Lori Bergamotto from Lucky magazine visited "Good Morning America" today to share four new looks that'll keep you looking trendy this summer while saving you money.

The Preppy Look

Model: Mariana

The classic preppy look is back and it gets a fresh, new spin this summer. Bergamotto said the look is playful and more eclectic, and not at all stuffy or stiff.

The components:

Color Blocking

Model: Cheryl

This trend started on the spring runways and is showing no signs of slowing down. It's a nice departure from basic black, yet it still channels sophistication, Bergamotto said.

You can easily find pieces in bright, solid colors at any price point and make countless outfits with separates, she said, adding that wearers can mix and match brights, neons and even throw neutrals into the rotation.

The components:

Shorts

Model: Sarah

Sure, they're a summer staple, but Bergamotto says there's a new way to wear shorts now. Shorts are normally considered a daytime piece, but you can now wear them at night.

Keep in mind that if you're showing a lot of skin on your legs, you should try to be more conservative up top. This kind of effortless style is all about balance, she added. Add a lacy top and a fitted black blazer for some added sophistication.

The components:

Prints

Model: Nneka

A print is an effortless way to elevate the standard maxi-dress silhouette, Bergamotto said. Prints may seem bold but they're actually a staple that should be in everyone's closet this summer.
