The husband of a North Carolina woman who disappeared while traveling in Grenada said he believes there was “no foul play” involved in her disappearance, according to a statement.

Cailen Waddell shared an update Wednesday on the family's website about the search for his wife, Liz Waddell, who went missing July 22 while traveling in Grenada with a friend.

Waddell said family members, friends, local authorities and volunteers have spent the past week searching for his wife but have not found her.

"After careful and thoughtful consultation with family, local authorities, the U.S. Embassy, and others here in Grenada, I join authorities in believing there was no foul play," Waddell said in the statement.

He said Liz Waddell was last seen swimming in the ocean near Grand Anse at about 5:30 p.m. on July 22.

"She communicated her confidence in her swimming and location, as well as the beauty of the island," he said.

Waddell said the missing person investigation remains ongoing and that authorities are working to determine his wife's movements between the time she was last seen on video and when she was later seen in the water around 5:30 p.m., while also seeking any additional sightings.

"No detail is too small," he said.

Waddell thanked family, friends, local authorities and Grenadian citizens for their efforts to find his wife and asked for privacy for his family and loved ones.

"We will release further statements if additional information becomes available," he said.
