Oct. 2, 2013 — -- If you've been having issues sending messages with your iPhone to your friends with iPhones -- or what Apple calls iMessages -- you're not alone. Various users have reported that they have had issues sending and receiving the messages after updating to the latest iOS 7 software.

Apple has confirmed that the issue is affecting a "fraction of a percent" of iMessage users and says it will be issuing an update to fix the problem soon.

"We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update," Apple's Trudy Muller told ABC News. "In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes impacted users."

The issue, which has been discussed at length in some of Apple's forums, has been solved for some by restarting the phone. Others say that restarting network settings can provide a temporary fix. That can be found under the Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

The issue is only impacting iMessages. Text messages are sending without fail, however, failed iMessages don't seem to be sending as text messages, as they usually do if the iMessage service is down.

Since the launch of iOS 7 two weeks ago, reaction to the software has been overwhelmingly positive, save for battery issues and some reporting that the new animations and zooms make them feel ill.
