In Memoriam: Notable people who died in 2024

Former President Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work to end conflict and advance human rights. Born to a peanut farmer in Georgia, he faced a daunting era of rising energy costs, inflation, and world crises during his White House years. His biggest achievement was the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel, and his biggest failure was Iran’s refusal to surrender 52 American hostages. After his reelection defeat, Carter continued his work for peace and justice and was often called “the best former president in history.”
