— -- Two minors suffered injuries in a shark attack and a possible shark attack in recent days in Florida and South Carolina -- the latest in a string of incidents over the past several months.

The first case happened on Wednesday in Jacksonville, Florida, authorities said.

In that case, a young girl was bitten by a 3-foot shark in the waters off Jacksonville Beach while in approximately 2 feet of water, according to Jacksonville Beach Police Commander C. Mark Evans.

The victim suffered several large lacerations to her right leg near the knee, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

In the second case, a 15-year-old suffered a bite from a marine animal, "possibly a shark," in Murrells Inlet, SC, said Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire District, Assistant Chief J.R. Haney.

The bleeding was controlled at the beach and the injuries were considered not life-threatening, Haney said.

It was not clear if the victim was a resident or visiting.
