President Obama: Daughter Malia's Spanish 'Is Much Better Than Mine'
— -- President Barack Obama may be the leader of the free world, but he's relying on his daughter Malia as his personal interpreter during his historic trip to Cuba.
Malia was captured translating Spanish for her father on Sunday night in a photo that's since gone viral.
"You know, her Spanish is much better than mine," Obama said in an exclusive interview with ABC News' David Muir. "And I'm hoping that she has a chance to get entirely fluent."
Malia and Sasha Obama are spending their spring break with the president and first lady as they visit Cuba and Argentina. It's the final spring break for Malia before she heads to college next fall.
The light moment at the Obama's first dinner in Cuba Sunday night was just one of those captured by Chief Official White House Photographer Pete Souza, who posted the image to Instagram today.
Obama said not taking the time to learn Spanish remains one of his big regrets, though he said "my accent is pretty good."
"My vocabulary is the equivalent of a 2-year-old's," Obama joked. "It's one of those things I've always said to myself that I'm gonna take care of. But ... it turned out that, during the presidency, I didn't have time to take Spanish lessons."
Obama is in the midst of a two-day trip to the island nation that comes after the two countries reestablished a bilateral relationship in December 2014 following more than five decades of severed relations.
The trip marks the first time in nearly 90 years a sitting U.S. president has visited Cuba.
