Savannah Guthrie urges captors to 'make the right choice,' return mother
"Today" show host Savannah Guthrie released a new video on social media Monday, imploring her mother's captor to "do the right thing" and help her family find her.
It has been nearly six months since the abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who was taken from her Tucson, Arizona home in the middle of the night on Sunday, Feb. 1.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance "remains active and ongoing," though without a significant development.
"We are in a nightmare that will not end," Savannah Guthrie said in the video, posted on Instagram.
"Nothing about our situation has changed." Savannah Guthrie said. "I'm asking you, begging you. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her."
The analysis of DNA and digital evidence has been underway for the past six months and is a time-intensive process, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.
The sheriff's department said it "remains committed to finding answers" alongside the FBI.
There are currently no suspects identified in the case.
Several ransom notes were sent to the media following Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, including two which authorities deemed potentially credible that were traced by the FBI.
An apparent break in the investigation occurred on Feb. 10, when previously inaccessible images and video footage were released of a masked man tampering with Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera the morning she was abducted.
After reviewing the doorbell camera footage, the FBI identified the suspect as a man with an average build who stands about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. The suspect was wearing a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, the FBI said.
Later, a glove was recovered along roadside brush about 2 miles from Nancy Guthrie's home that appeared to generically match the kind of gloves the man wore in the doorbell camera footage. Authorities later concluded the man whose DNA was found on the glove had nothing to do with the case.
On Feb. 24, Savannah Guthrie announced a new $1 million reward for the recovery of her mother, bringing the total reward amount to $1.2 million.
In Monday's social media video, Savannah Guthrie said it is never too late to do the right thing.
"Help us bring this situation to an end," Savannah Guthrie said. "For all of us, no matter where we've been and what we've done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice."
