Fake It 'Til You Make It: Best Shapewear for Women

ByANTHONY UNDERWOOD

Jan. 10, 2011 — -- Half the battle in stylish dressing is mastering the fit. That's part of the reason that shapewear has become an industry in and of itself. It's so popular there are even girdle-type briefs for men and pregnant women.

This morning, Lori Bergamotto of Lucky Magazine spoke with "Good Morning America" and gave us the best figure fixer recommendations to solve your shape issues in an instant.

Busty Figures

The Problem: Many women with a big bust have trouble wearing a classic button-down shirt. The buttons gape. The plackets pull. And the shirt always looks ill-fitting.

The Solution: The answer is not just about the right bra; it's about supportive shapewear. Start with a Bali Powershape Cami, $35.20 from JC Penney. It is a firm control camisole that sculpts the bust line like a bra, but also slims the middle and eliminates dreaded "back fat." Look for ones that have full cups and underwire, so you're propped up.

Saddlebags

The Problem: Pencil skirts are a wardrobe staple, but if you have a body with a small waist and fuller thighs they can be tough to pull off.

The Solution: We've all heard about the magic of Spanx, but no one wants to wear shapewear over their tights -- some women say it feels too encumbered. Thankfully, Spanx has updated its High-Waisted Tight End Tights, $38, so you get all of the thigh-trimming benefits of compression and none of the bulk of layering your hosiery with shapewear. Getting tights with control top is not the same thing. Spanx actually provide maximum shaping right below the bra line, through the thighs and rear.

Smooth Torso

The Problem: Fashion experts say layering is always a smart way to dress, but not if you have a fuller torso. On those with a fuller torso, it can look bulky or sloppy and made the model on "GMA" this morning appear 10 pounds heavier than she is.
